Santa Clara Data Center Campus
2010-2020
Santa Clara, California
DCM Design was tasked with developing a masterplan for a 1,000,000+ SF data center campus in the heart of Silicon Valley, transforming an underutilized site into a state-of-the-art tech hub. The campus consists of eight buildings ranging from 2 to 4 stories, designed to support the growing demand for digital infrastructure in the region.
The campus is uniquely positioned to deliver a comprehensive range of retail colocation services, backed by a multi-megawatt platform. Additionally, CoreSite stands out as one of only two data center providers offering direct connectivity to leading cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. This capability ensures customers can seamlessly scale their infrastructure while maintaining low-latency, high-performance connections to the most widely used public cloud services.
SV04 and SV05, key components of the campus, were completed as part of the ongoing expansion and further solidify the campus’s role in addressing the needs of high-capacity data operations. They continue to emphasize advanced mechanical and electrical systems, featuring 40 MW of utility and standby power and a moment frame structural system that allows for efficient construction. This system enabled quick steel erection, completed in just 5 days. Each building within the campus reflects DCM Design’s commitment to high-performance, sustainable, and flexible design, ensuring the campus continues to serve as a vital asset in the tech ecosystem of Silicon Valley.
SV07, completed in 2016, was the first major building on the campus, spanning 231,000 SF. This 2-story facility showcases a striking terra cotta tile facade with linear curtain wall breaks and integrated aluminum reveals, enhancing both the building’s modern aesthetic and functionality.
The design also includes metal panel bump-outs, offering both visual appeal and additional structural capabilities. Following the completion of SV07, SV08 was finalized in 2018. This 160,000 SF, 4-story data center was designed with similar principles but features a stucco exterior instead of terra cotta tiles. The design ensures a seamless integration with SV07 while maintaining its own distinct architectural identity, continuing the campus’s modern and high-performance aesthetic.
